Hospice Physician Documentation Clinic - November 2024

Three 90-minute clinics on documentation strategies specifically designed for the hospice physician to address regulatory knowledge gaps surrounding technical and clinical eligibility for payment (Conditions for Coverage / Payment). Enhancement of the physician’s documentation of the written Certification/Recertification of Terminal Illness, correct use of hospice assessment tools, and creating compelling and compliant documentation to ensure payment are presented. This course has a documentation emphasis while integrating the basics of eligibility and compliance. If a physician is struggling to draft strong physician narrative statements, this course is a great place to start!

This Education Portal and user's My Dashboard will be used to access Zoom link, workbook download, evaluation, continuing education certificate, and recordings.

SPACE: unlimited registrants

CANCELLATION POLICY: Cancellation must be made prior to start time. Transfer or substitution of another person from your hospice for same event is no charge. No shows are non-refundable.

WORKBOOK: An email will be sent to all registrants when the workbook is ready for download. Or, log into your education portal account one week prior to start date for this event and click on the Workbook tab. Save to a device or print. A color version and black & white version are available. Color is not required.

ZOOM: access to the Zoom link is different each session. Log into the Education Portal 15 minutes or less prior to start time. Click on My Dashboard and the bold event title to Join Event in Progress / Zoom link.

ACCESS: recordings, workbook download, evaluation, and certificate access available through January 10, 2025.

CONTINUING EDUCATION: log into the Education Portal after event completion to access evaluation and certificates.

Dr. Lauren Templeton has been a Physician Consultant with Weatherbee Resources since 2017. As a physician since 2009 and a hospice and palliative medicine physician since 2012, Dr. Templeton began her career in internal medicine, but soon thereafter was drawn to end-of-life care due to its overall philosophy and her passion for ensuring a dignified death for her patients. As a hospice medical director and Hospice Medical Director Certified physician, she is perfectly positioned to assist your hospice physicians with compliance education!

Dr. Templeton currently works in hospice as the medical director for a medium size not-for-profit hospice based in Texas. In this role, she assists with compliance, quality improvement and documentation review. She continues to participate in clinical care managing hospice patients in both the home care and inpatient setting.

She also serves as associate medical director for the Palliative Care Department at a local medical center, as well as, serving on the foundation board, medical executive committee, and ethics committee for the same facility.

Dr. Templeton’s mission is to help support hospices by educating on the role of the hospice medical director from a regulatory and clinical perspective. She has served as a task force member and item writer for the Hospice Medical Director Certification Board from which she is certified. She continues a robust educational program within her own hospice program and is a regular speaker with the Texas New Mexico Hospice Organization.

As an advocate of the hospice benefit and speaks to groups such as the Alzheimer’s Association about hospice care and currently serves as a member of the NHPCO Regulatory Committee assisting in advocating for hospice providers across the country.
